National security is one of the important concepts which appear among the reasons of international trade policy. Besides the defense industry performance of countries, goods and services produced by the defense industries are important for national security. In this context, the sector of arms and ammunition related to defense industry is analyzed in the study. The aim of this study is to determine the level of competition between Turkey and the USA in this sector. In the study, Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index was used. According to the values of RCA index, it can be stated that Turkey has a high competitive capacity against the USA in the related sector. Also, it is expected that supporting and strengthening the subsector of ‘Arms, Tanks, Revolvers, Guns, Edged Weapons, and Challenging Weapons’ (8911), which has a low competitive advantage against the USA, will bring this sector to a better level of competition. Ulusal güvenlik uluslararası ticaret politikasının nedenleri arasında yer alan önemli kavramlardan biri konumundadır. Ülkelerin savunma sanayi performansı yanısıra savunma sanayileri tarafından üretilen mal ve hizmetler, ulusal güvenlik için önem arz etmektedir. Bu bağlamda çalışmada savunma sanayi ilişkili ‘‘Ateşli Harp Silahları ve Malzemeleri ” (891) sektörü analiz edilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye ile ABD arasında bu sektöre ilişkin rekabet düzeylerinin tespit edilmesidir. Çalışmada yöntem olarak Açıklanmış Karşılaştırmalı Üstünlük (AKÜ) endeksi kullanılmıştır. AKÜ endeks değerlerine göre Türkiye’nin ABD karşısında ilgili sektörde yüksek rekabet gücüne sahip olduğu söylenebilmektedir. Alt sektörlerde ise ABD karşısında düşük rekabet avantajına sahip olunduğu tespit edilen ‘‘Harp Silahları, Tanklar, Revolver, Tabanca, Kesici, Dürtücü Silahlar” (8911) sektörünün desteklenmesi ve güçlendirilmesinin bu sektörü daha iyi bir rekabet seviyesine taşıyacağı beklenmektedir.
